W1938-998G (Nov 2012) (35 – Kabuto; 39 – Erik Laneley; 41 – Galloping Geargrinder; 46 – Nick Cartone)
Notes:
Cases 996S, 996T, 996V and 996W (TBC) have been exclusively on sale through Disney Stores UK.
Cases 996S (Mar 2012), 996T (Sep 2012), 996V (Sep 2012) and 996W (Oct 2012) along with unreleased 996Y (Oct 2012) had previously been on sale in Europe.
Case 997J, of the recent cases has been on sale the longest, about three months, where the average is about six weeks. There are usually around 2,000 of each case, but there have been an estimated 5,000 997J in the UK.
Case 998G was a ‘catch-up’ case, where it contained many cars that hadn’t previously been on sale in the UK.
No. 35 - Kabuto was first introduced into Europe in case 997H.
No. 41 – Galloping Geargrinder was first introduced into Europe in case 996Y.
There are five cars still to be released into the UK (and Europe).
No. 36 – Rip Clutchgoneski was originally supposed to be in case 996W, but for some unknown reason wasn’t included. It may have been a manufacturing problem or maybe a change of decision.
The four other cars 47 – Fabrizio; 48 – Mary Esgocar; 49 – Alexander Hugo/party hat and 50 – Sir Harley Gassup
Originally, in common with recent practise, these four cars were supposed to be introduced in two separate case, one Chase car and one regular car in a quantity of one and two respectively per case.
Because of the relative over production of case 997J, this isn’t going to happen now.
Mattel have a few options:
1). Mattel could put all the four cars in one case, with four of each Chase car and eight of each regular car. Assuming there are 2,000 of each Chase car produced, that means 500 cases. Stockists and internet resellers would snap these up, knowing that these would sell out very quickly!
2). Mattel could still release one final case, but as many stockists are holding off until Cars 2013 is released, this is now looking unlikely.
3). An increasingly likely option would be for Mattel to just include these four unreleased cars in the first cases of the 2013 range as a kind of lucky dip!
