  • 2014 Deluxe - want to learn more?

New post by Met on TakeFiveADay today about the 2014 Deluxe list...

    http://www.takefiveaday.com/2013/11/...-preview-2014/

There are some new Deluxe Cars coming in 2014 that I think several of us are going to want.

Chuck Choke Cables - case H
    Nelson Blindspot - case H

Grem with WGP camera - finally!

    Jungle Miles Axelrod
    WGP Race Track Tow Truck
    WGP Race Track Ambulance

And there's a Paris Bus that looks awesome.

Repeats include Ivan, Red, Mack, and Waiter Mater... Kmart will get a first to market case - I had no luck with their Deluxe first to market case in June 2013 but did find it once it appeared at other stores.

Again, full credit to Met at the above link... once we find the poster we'll share photos.

I can't wait to get these (waiter mater and red are the only ones I already have)

I hope they use the correct Sprinter or Iveco-esqe diecast for the race track ambulance and not just repaint one of the NA ambulances that we already have (Dr feel bad, rescue squad) there are a few characters based on euro vans and i have been hoping for a diecast of one.

There is a screenshot of the bus on the original post.

I'm excited for Miles, hopefully he is done well. He is the car that I wanted most, except for Impala 13 that only came out in Disney Store size.

I'd really like to see a Big D and Sgt. Highgear done by Mattel as well.

When I bought Maurice I really thought that it could be simply made into a Sgt Highgear.

That's funny. Why would Take 5 be blocked?

Making it a Deluxe also means that it almost certainly won't be released in the UK

I had an interesting chat with Mattel yesterday. I wouldn't rule out 2014 Deluxe and Double packs making an appearance. It's all down to demand for the Deluxe and Double Packs. Without going into too much detail, Mattel and the retailers agree a plan for the year. With Planes coming out, they considered that the market wasn't big enough to cope with Deluxe and Double Packs too.

From a collectors point of view, we all know we'd have bought them, but many retailers weren't interested as Planes at around 7-10 GBP were the same market 'slot' as Deluxe and Double packs.

The situation was compounded by the fact that there was tons of surplus stock from elsewhere that Mattel (Corporate) dumped on Mattel (UK) to dispose of. There were loads of Deluxe and Double Packs from 2012 plus quite a few US singles cases too, not to mention the internataional 996Y case with GGG.

Unless Mattel finds the 'missing' 2013 international 997W and 997Y cases, the selling old socks (sorry stocks) won't be as prevailent next year. Planes wasn't the commercial success Mattel had hoped, so maybe this maybe the catalyst to see Deluxe and Doubles make a welcome return?

Also, as Super Chase are now part of the series from day one, hopefully we'll get them too!? After all, if overstocks of 2012 and 2013 Super Chase are turning up for 2 USD in bargain shops in the US, Mattel could sell them at normal prices in the UK!

Planes was extremely successful in the US with their relatively cheap pricetag. It's strange to see how Planes didn't do that well in the UK but very well over here. My WM has without a doubt ordered (and sold!) over 30 Cases of Planes since June, which is a lot compared to the measly 6-7 Cases of Cars they ordered during the same time.

I'm not sure I would say Planes has been successful - once again, lots of stores ordered way too many of the first case of 12 and Dusty and the others just sit on the pegs.

From a numbers standpoint, 30 cases with 12 Planes per case = 360 Planes
7 cases of Cars with 24 Cars per case = 168 Cars

So your Walmart has sold over twice as many Planes as Cars.

One Walmart store I visit every 2 weeks - I've seen one 2013 single (Grem with weapon) and the rest are still left from 2012 case A... I've seen Meijer stores within the last week that still have nothing but Finn McMissile singles on the Porto Corsa cardback.

Onto Deluxe - so many stores in our area still have nothing but Submarine Finn McMissile... Walmart has current Deluxe marked down to $5.97... I'm thinking of buying some for a potential project (it would be easier if I could make customs)... I sure hope I can find Nelson and the others in stores...

Hopefully the new Deluxe (and Movie Moments) find their way to the UK this year... I'd like to see the 2012 Movie Moments that appeared in the UK and Europe show up in the US at one of the overstock stores (Big Lots or TJ Maxx).
