That was the painful part, £49.99! I liked it but not enough to make the impulse purchase right there and then. I will have get authorisation from the boss (my Missus) before I hit out on a purchase like that, my job will be to try and convince her that it's a long term investment rather that just a toy for me to admire!

Did ask a member of staff if they had any others in stock but they said since planes has come out thats all they've had. He said he thinks the cars stock is stopping due to planes.

They had ample of planes in stock and they were 'buy one get a second half price'. Managed to get Chug and Zed.
I picked up the 'three way tie' set today in Tru and took a real close look, came within an inch of parting with my cash. The reason I didn't was because I already have 9 of the 10 cars (need the Tongue LMQ with no back tyres) so I couldn't justify the expense with new singles cases *hopefully* just around the corner... It's a great set though and if it's on offer between now and Christmas I might just go for it!

but that still doesn't answer why you felt the need to make these claims in response to a question that had nothing to do with selling cars on ebay?

I completely agree about the "look after No.1" issue (the most glaring recent PCD example of this with the 994B case was done with self-interested US member trades in mind), but then can you really honestly hand on heart say you don't put yourself first when collecting? I'm not talking about the interesting and detailed information you post, which many members (and no doubt lurking guest scalpers) appreciate, but actual purchases and trades helping out other members? Do you really want to go there Nigel?

In contrast, I've had members like Vandance literally send me much-wanted cars for my little boy and actually REFUSE payment, knowing I'll happily return the favour at some point. That's the complete opposite of the mentality you're talking about.

Anyway, it's a shame that this scab has been picked, and hopefully this thread can get back to what it should be about....literally "what's in those UK stores".

And on that note, my local big Boots has always sold Cars but just the usual PC carded suspects. It's possible that reduced price (not technically the lowest, I once bought Finn/Leland for £1.75 retail) was correct as they're probably clearing stockrooms ready for Christmas gift season.
I don't mind 'going there'. I have never charged anyone more than the face value of a car. I'm not going to start now. OK, putting things on the open market is one thing, but actually ripping off other collectors, maybe even people have become friends is another.

I'm certainly not against market forces, supply and demand, but my first concern is for genuine collectors and the children. There's nothing better than the look of delight on a kids face when they've got that elusive car they've been looking for! A close second for me is being able to share helpful information and then hearing that other collectors found it useful.

When you go into a shop and see ten Chase cars and are tempted to buy the lot, think about the kid who you'll be denying their champagne (or lemonade) moment!

The information is posted in good faith, and as accurate as can be, but as we all know, Mattel change plans, sometimes with little or no warning! That said, half the fun is the chasing around for new cars!

When I hear stores and see pictures of those who've just bought everything in sight, that makes my blood boil.

There's something very odd about the 997V case with Chase Miles. The initial batch that appeared in Sainsburys in May had a date stamp of around 0243EAA to 0303EAA. The batch that appeared at Morrisons at the beginning of July were all from the same vintage. This also covers the Hamleys batch from mid July.

The ones that have been appearing recently in Sainsburys and now Tesco have a date stamp of 0873EAA.

On one hand that is earlier than both 997W and 997Y cases, but that's still a 60 day or two months gap in date stamps with the initial batches.

On the other hand, that's highly irregular and not something I've seen since I've recorded this information (from about Mid 2012 - Cars 2 996S onwards), except the 996Y (with 3 GGGs) that appeared in the UK recently.

This case was either not released in mainland Europe or only in limited quantities? Maybe we can swap it for the 994A case with Ichigo and Nature Drive McQueen in it? Is that a fair swap?

I can only guess that Mattel doesn't think that it can meet the demand with up and coming cases, so it's decided to source more, not quite so new cases?

As there is quite clearly a demand, due to poor distribution of the 994B case, then the obvious thing would be to have another 1,000 of them or import the similar 994A case, so we at least get a chance to get Ichigo!

The trends of collecting cars don't differ too much from any other collections.

For every person who would rip someone off rather than help someone there are people who would bend over backwards to help others out. If I find a car that is sought after and I can afford to buy it I do. If I get another of that car I would happily trade it at face value or even give it away in return for a future favour. Every now and again I get left with a dozen cars that no one wants so I either sell them on a local sell/buy page on facebook or stick them on ebay with a 99p start. Also to help funding this increasingly expensive HOBBY I sometimes buy collections on ebay and keep the cars I need and trade or sell the others.

A lot of this is down to the market being flooded with pegwarmers that simply don't sell, and whilst the 2013 cases have had better selections (hence the reason they have disappeared as quickly) the remnants of these cases are still the same as my local stores are still trying to cope with shelf loads of silver racers, LMs, Finns and Francescos. Collectors are more and more resorting to buying factory cases which in this country (UK) means great expense due to shipping and import tax - I guess you cant blame collectors for cherry picking the cars they want and hocking the spare on ebay to recoup some of their losses although some do and will trade if and when they can.

It takes all sorts though folks and as much as I collect for my wee boy and love to see his excitement at finding a new car - I will admit that I have enjoyed the friendship and hospitality of several members who help me out whenever they can and for whom I would do the same at any given opportunity. Healthy debate is always good and there have been a few good ones since I joined just under a year ago but please don't fall into the trap of personal attacks which can cause grudges and bad atmosphere in an environment set up to help people - other forums in other walks of live have went down this route and never recovered and I genuinely wouldn't like to see it happen here.

Now who is willing to trade me a Takeshi for a Finn/Leland 2 pack?

Congrats to everyone with great finds recently! Chloe you are on a roll! I also found the Miles Chase box in Tescos Extra.... I needed Darrell with Headset! YAY! I also never saw it in the wild either...

Boogity Thats amazing well done! Genius idea and so glad it paid off for you.

Enzo I did offer you a Boost with Flames earlier in this thread that you may not have seen - This was cos I saw it sitting on a half empty shelf and thought someone on here would have wanted it, after reading the debate of the lack of spread of these. Southampton might not be accessible by some so was happy to send it over to other areas who haven't seen it.....

I do just try to help people out.....

The case in tesco would appear to be the same case as what sainsburys been having.
