  • I have ten large Tesco Extra (8) and Superstores (2) in my usual work and local areas.

In two blocks, I had a quick scoot around and all of them had plenty of stocks of older cars, mainly Silver Racers, Cars 2 996Y case and the odd car from the 994B case.

The average number of cars in each store was about 30. I don't know what Tesco's threshold is for restocking, but I would guess that it's possible that none of them will be getting the new case(s) or clipstrips at the moment.

One of the stores (Purley - South of Croydon) has recently been refitted with a whole new look. Most of the non-food stuff has moved upstairs, with many categories seeing a much smaller area. Toys, clothes, CD/DVD/Blu-ray, electrical goods and homeware sections have all reduced significantly in this store.

This store was previously one of my most productive for new cars. They have definitely overdosed on the Silver Racers (£6.50). There must be 50 of them, located on the top shelf near the magazine display!

    • Nigel, the cards in the Tesco myself and Madbob refer to weren't clip strips in the traditional sense, they have the J cut out and no plastic hanger. Most other Tesco's i've been in are exactly as you describe. If you get the opportunity I would follow Madbob's lead and target the smaller Tesco Metro stores which are between the Express and Superstores in size. Don't know that there are that many Metro sized stores around, I only know of Maidenhead and Uxbridge near to me.

Thanks for the advice. I did a search using the Tesco storefinder and it came up with 42 stores within ten miles of my postcode! I didn't realise there were three Express stores in my home town! There's one at my local station. They did briefly sell cars and they were 'displayed on clipstips' (that's what I meant to say on my original posting). They *sold* them very quickly, or so I thought! I asked the duty manager if they were getting any more in and he said that the went quickly as most of them got stolen!

On the way to football last night, I tried a few different Tesco stores in *Sarf Eeeest Lun-dun*. The biggest Extra store in Woolwich must have had at least 100 old cars, many on the shelves and many displayed on clipstrips througout the store plus a couple of 996Y cases for good measure too! Tesco certainly overdosed on that case! Anyone still want a GGG? I know where I can get up to 4,500 of them! Now he's common as ...

It's funny how quickly cars become less popular, now nobody seems to want ggg (I thought it would of been rarer then it is) The same with the Queen, She can now be picked up in discount stores .. Who would of thought

Seems like it was a good match last night (I only watched the text commentary on the BBC website). I wonder if Vaz Te could do a job for us until Carroll is back?? Sorry off topic I know .

              • Not posted on here for ages sorry but just been to my local asda and picked up Todd pizza planet, just wondering how rare it is or not? They only had one so I grabbed it!!! I was wondering where everyone is finding planes 2 stuff, the only place I have seen it yet is the disney store and I have bought my boy- 'mayday' and 'avalanche'. Jenny

                • I think Todd is only one per case and its his first appearance in 2014 and he's not been released for a number of years. Being in almost every Pixar film (as the pizza planet toyota) he seems to be a favourite so I'd imagine he could be hard to find. He may of course be in cases later in the year, and subsequent years so I guess like a lot of cars, his future value will depend on how many more Mattell release! As for the planes 2, I think it's only at the disney store/website and TRU at the current time (in the UK at least!)

                  • I wasn't sure where to post this, but as the cardbacks have been different in the US to the UK/international ones for some cars, I suppose the UK shops thread is the most appropriate?

The emphasise one post, Lizzie was released in the US on a 2014 Disney World of Cars cardback, whereas the UK/international cardback is the more recent 2013 Disney Pixar Cars cardback, which is more similar the the 2013 series cardbacks.

There are 72 standard singles touted for release in 2014.

Of those released in the UK (up to and including the latest 988T case), there have been 41no. Disney World of Cars cardbacks and 19no. Disney Pixar Cars cardbacks.

This leaves 12 singles still be released in the UK, although Timothy Twostroke was released on a US card in the first US case (and first European case too in very limited numbers).

All 11 World Grand Prix cars so far released have been on a Disney World of Cars cardback. One would hope that David Hobbscap would be too, as that would at least mean the whole of that series would be on the same cardback!

Of the 11 Piston Cup singles, ten are on DWOC cardbacks, Marlon being the exception.

Radiator Springs is quite evenly split as is Tuners, Lemons, 95 Pit crew and Race Fans. Later series like Allinol, Mel Dorado and Paris Tour start to be dominated by DPC cardbacks!

Has anyone noticed a Car that has been released (early) on Disney World of Cars cardback, but subsequently found on a Disney Pixar Cars cardback?

I'll have to go back to check, but I think Acer with Headset (in the latest 988T case) is one?

                    • I've had a look at cars that are still in shops, comparing the repeats with the those that I already have.

Nearly all the cars in the recent cases, repeats or otherwise have been on Disney Pixar Cars cardbacks, so it's easy to draw the conclusion that many of the original 2014 Disney World of Cars cardbacks have been replaced with 2014 Disney Pixar Cars cardbacks.

It's likely that, subject to them all being repeated, but 40 of the 41 Disney World of Cars cardbacks will be replaced by Disney Pixar Cars cardbacks. The one exception will be Megan Carrar as she is a Chase car, albeit there are two versions of her!

Emmanuel was released in the US on a World of Cars cardback, whilst the international version is a Disney Pixar cardback.

Some may think this is a Mattel cock-up, but the cynic in me thinks this may also be deliberate!

If it wasn't bad enough in 2011 (Cars 2) with cut and straight cardbacks, this is a whole lot worse. At least in 2011, there was a cut off with No. 26 - Lightning McQueen, but Mattel have mixed them up this time!

Thanks Mattel, you really know how to turn people (seasoned collectors) off collecting!

I'll try and post a definitive 2014 DWOC v. DPC listing, when I've completed updating the Cars spreadsheet / database.

                        LUIGI & GUIDO

Although we have MARLON 'CLUTCHES' McKAY on a Disney Pixar Cars cardback, he was also released (in very limited numbers on the DWoC cardback as he was in the first international (not UK) case 998K.

TIMOTHY TWOSTROKE was also in the first international case 998K, again on a DWoC in very limited numbers.

That makes 43 of the 72 cars on a DWoC cardback.

The DPC cardbacks started to appear from case 998P onwards.

                        • Bentalls (Kingston-upon-Thames) had a few of the 988S cases.

I managed to pick up a MARLON 'CLUTCHES' McKAY (0774EAA) and LUIGI & GUIDO (0774EAA) on a 2014 Disney World of Cars card. Both of these had the same production dates as the Disney Pixar Cars carded cases we had.

Indeed, they had what looked like the contents of about six cases and there were both cars on both cardbacks in there, possibly three of each!

That makes at least 44 DWoC international carded cars.

                          What a mess Mattel!

If anyone see's any other 2014 Disney World of Cars cards that I haven't listed, please post details on here!

                          Thanks,
