  • UK customs charges

    Hi there all

This is intended as a reference to non european union people overseas who ship items to people here in the uk.

Over here in the uk each individual has an import allowance placed on items that we get from non european union countries.
This allowance if the the items are being sent as a gift is £36($54),if they are being sent from an eBay purchase from say a shop in the US then this allowance is only £15($22) as they would have to provide an invoice for your purchase.

if the value of the goods placed on the declaration form exceeds this then we have to pay import VAT(value added tax) based on the contents value.

As an example this is the cost of the parcel I received from the US.

Cost of shipping to the UK - $66.25 - £43 priority mail used.
Cost of import VAT and clearance fee - £32.34 ($49)

As you can see the cost is high, sadly for us in the UK

Hope this is useful for all future trades between members of our cars community

    Many thanks

    Jason

i have sent a package to the UK and valued it at $20
it when through without any problems
do your customs people question $20 when it is very apparent the package is worth more than that?
