  • Dinoco is Sinclair

If I had to guess, when you saw the title of this thread you might have been a little confused... but let me explain.

Sunday after church my wife and I went to Applebees for dinner... I looked up and saw these decorations on the wall:

Sinclair Dino gasoline and Sinclair Opaline motor oil.

That symbol on the signs looks familiar...

    Here's the Dinoco Crew Chief:

    The King:

Here's a site with information on the Sinclair Oil Corporation:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinclair_Oil_Corporation

I'll add closeup photos of the hood of The King and some of the McQueens later.

Thanks for sharing your photo, All4Mase... I don't really remember Sinclair gas stations... my grandpa owned a Gulf gas station and a Harley Davidson dealership in Pike County Kentucky - even though we lived about 300 miles from them we could only buy Gulf gasoline while he was in business.

Neat! I also had a feeling that Dinoco's symbol was from Sinclair.

I find it very interesting to find out about the different inspirations for the movie. Did not grow up in the States so this is the first time I hear about Sinclair. Thanks Chris.

I don't think Sinclairs are so ubiquitous anymore that people know about them automatically. I've seen so many close up.

As in closed doors, not right in front of me.

Knew about sinclair thanks to the "history channel's" "reality shows." Haha.

Maybe we can start a thread highlighting all of the brands that pixar played off of.

That's hilarious. Sinclair does still have stations.

They must be branded differently in California. I'm surprised to hear that. I've traveled a lot through the US and Canada too. Maybe I just never paid attention.
