DISNEY PLANES LAUNCHED IN THE UK - Then recalled just as quick!
A local toystore group near me received about ten cases of Disney Planes today in error! They are not officially supposed to launch until Monday 10th June in the UK.
The error was spotted when the toystore HQ contacted Mattel UK to find out what the RRP was!
Mattel promptly recalled all stock!
It is believed that Planes were sent out instead of the first wave of Cars 2013 Deluxe and Movie Moments. I'll have to wait for next week's delivery to find out!Comment

its a pity they can't recall all those peg warmers as quick...Mattel... full of blue collar workers, should let the immigrants have a go. They couldn't do any worse put it that way....
Its also a pity that this ridiculous company have stocked up all my stores over here with junk that will never sell... So maybe those new Deluxe and two packs will hit home bargains instead... that could be the silver lining, you think?

Is there no limit to Mattel UK's incompetence?
If they have lots of stocks for the launch of Planes and the first waves of Deluxe and Moments are ready for distribution that must mean that the next waves of Cars 2013 singles are also in the warehouse?
Given that four cases (997R, 997Q, 997U and 997P) were released within about a month, that could mean that the next four cases 997V, 997W, 997S/T and 997Y are in the warehouse together?
Until we actually see them, they are just assumed case numbers.Comment

That June 10 release date for Planes is very interesting as that's also the exact date I was given by Tesco (posted in Finds thread yesterday) for the new arrival/release of new cases of 2013 Cars, presumably V and W but possibly deluxe also.Comment

The film isn't due out until the beginning of August. It sounds like the merchandise is out quite early if the release date of 10th June proves to be true. Did Cars 1 and Cars 2 merchandise come out much before the launch of the films? My wife and I are quite new to this sort of thing, so we have no idea whether it's a good idea to get merchandise out well before a film gets a cinematic or Blu-ray/DVD release. Anyway, I find it most bizarre that Mattel should have Planes in stock even a month before they are due in shops. The shop said they had opened one case of 12 and there were about half a dozen different Planes in there. There are actually five different ones in the first case. El Chupacabra, Ishani, Leadbottom, Ripslinger and Skipper.

@nigel - in the US, Cars2 toys were officially released on May 16, 2011 with the movie starting in theaters on June 24, 2016 - 5 weeks later...
Cars came out in theaters on June 9, 2006... Supercharged singles and movie moments came out in Fall 2006... I'll have to look at my desert back singles and movie moments to get approximate production dates and I will add those.
It seems to me that Cars toys came out because the movie was proving to be successful... it almost seems with Cars2 (and perhaps now Planes) that the toys are coming out in order to draw people to the theater to see the movie.Comment

With the lack of new cars (2013) in shops, we've been taking advantage of various sales or price reductions. Up to Easter, we only had two Lights & Sounds, Spy Mater and Darrell Cartrip. Toys R Us and Smyths have had them for £4.99 since then, so we've added Lightning McQueen (TRU), Mater (US), Francesco Bernoulli (TRU), Finn McMissile (US), Spy Finn McMissile (US), Miles Axlerod (Smyths), Professor Z (Smyths), Rod 'Torque' Redline (Smyths) and Race Team Sarge (Smyths).
We have a Holley Shiftwell on the way too. We just need Ramone and Fillmore (my wife's favourite character) to complete the current set.
Race Team Sarge, Darrell Cartrip and Rod 'Torque' Redline are on straight cut cards with the others being side cut cards.
All of them are on US style cards, as that's all we've seen in the UK. However, TRU have had some on European cards, with more than one language on the front. We think they look untidy.
The international cards with the image on the front is our preferred option with US style cards a close second, but we try and avoid internional/European ones with multi-languages on the front, unless they are exclusive!

This was the scene in Smyths Toy store today. The pegs were jammed full of Silver Racers, no room for main line singles at all. Which was just as well because up top there were another 4 un-opened cases of Silver Racers. At £6 each I think those pegs will remian full for many months to come

I think Smyths buyers have lost the plot. Not only do they have hoards of silver racers at £6 and Kaizo/FCM deluxes at £7 but the same Cars are £4 and £5 at Asda and TRU respectively.Comment

me and ru5ty went up to tru the first time the cars 2 stuff came out, it was a good laugh, but from a buying point of view, it was a waste of time cos everything was pretty slow moving, in fact it would not surprise me if some of the stuff is there til this day
