Hey carslover, the answer to your question is quite simple. If you've seen the Star Wars movies, this version is Episode VI Luke. Luke has a mechanical black hand because he lost his real hand when Darth Vader cut it off with a light saber in Episode V. The black wheel represents the machine hand and the silver wheels represent "human" limbs.
