My guess is that Mattel had leftover lenticular Cars from the previous series on the Night Skyline cardback and wanted to try to sell the product... a new cardback/blister is an inexpensive way to try to create a "new" product.

A couple of years ago one of the stores (Target, I think) released 4 older Cars in Christmas boxes... I passed on those as I had the Cars... and I will pass on these as well with the possible exception of Fabulous Hudson Hornet.

That is a terrible assortment aimed at the Christmas market - the fact they have all been released before is bad enough but to make them lentis just sucks!

I would not even think twice about these, and im glad im not collecting different cardbacks (the benefit of being an opener)!

Edavies, while those are new, the real 2013 Chrismas Cars have been seen on ebay a while back. They have a similar but Green Cardback and the one I saw was Decked Out Doc Hudson.

Im honestly quite confused with the 6 in your link. Why were these made? Theyre an odd assortment, and LENTICULAR to boot.

Well, I just thought this was interesting. Seller has the MSOS for $2000. That's crazy money but at least compared to what Amazon has it for ($3,500 ) this is quite a bit cheaper. (Amazon even have the box alone -no cars- for $1,000 ... Yes an empty box. ) Still, I would never pay that much for it, but if you have been holding out, just thought i'd share.

Someone over at CTT spotted this on Ebay
"Rare! Mattel *Disney PLANES* #3 Spanish Racer Antonio Pitty 1/55 Diecast"

I am 98.8% positive this is the pitty coming in the set Wal-Mart.com has had listed since Planes stuff came out. The prototype had him blue and this one is black. SO does that mean "Arturo" (I think that's the planes name) will be black instead of blue also? It would make sense as the proto image for Ripslingers pitty was purple and ended up being green to match Ripslinger.

The Team 95 Pit Crew is apparently supposed to be exclusive for Cars 2, meaning that it'll probably just be Sarge w/ Headset, Luigi and Guido w/ Headsets, and one other Car. The series Description also says "Lightning McQueen's trusty pit crew leaves Radiator Springs to travel the world as Team Lightning McQueen!"

It makes me a bit confused on why Mattel deicded to have Not Chuck and the rest of the Pities from Cars on the back of the cardback.
